From reading the terms of service to understanding security protocols, we evaluate products and brands against their stated legal and technical implementations. We will not recommend any product or company that has a blatant disregard for privacy.
We have used hundreds of products and dozens of systems; some are easier than others to understand, set up, and use. We wade through to make sure the performance of the product, software, and integration is a best-in-class experience for your home.
Companies that stand the test of time are hard to predict, but we look for companies and products with proven track records. Nothing is worse than buying something and having it be obsolete or incompatible in a few years, so we evaluate the marketing and direction of the parent company before recommending products.
The foundations are here, but ecosystems will continue to expand and new products will come on the market. Not everything is ready for prime time, however. If products, or entire categories of products, don't stack up to our evaluation criteria of privacy, staying power, and user experience, then we will recommend you hold off. We do our best to make sure you are ready to jump in with new smart devices when it is time.
