Congratulations on starting your smart home journey! Whatever reason brought you here - security, a friend, or just curiosity - this page is here to help you get started. Smart homes don’t have to be daunting, but there are a few fundamentals we should get out of the way.

First, we advise everyone to pick an ecosystem. Our blog post on the ecosystem market can help you wrap your head around the available options and decide which one you want.
The first thing you will need with your ecosystem is a “hub” to command all of the smart things, and typically the most straight-forward way to do this is get a smart speaker like the Apple HomePod or the Google Home.

Second, a strong, consistent WiFi has the biggest performance impact in your ecosystem. Many of the devices you install in your home rely on your WiFi network and its performance will therefore determine how good an experience you will have. You can learn more on our Networking page, but generally the more WiFi access points you have that are hardwired to the main network, the better.

To get started we have listed some of the product categories you might be interested in below. WiFi is the backbone, but security, lighting, window shades and HVAC are all great places to explore.
